Bad Pet Foods Rumor Persists

They’re still talking about the possibly of contaminated dog treats. Five years after the Menu Foods recall because of melamine-contaminated chicken treats, there are still stories of illness and deaths after pets have eaten jerky treats using processed chicken imported from China. It’s not clear if melamine is again involved, although it seems unlikely since Menu Foods blew the whistle on itself and identified the source of the problem.

Advisory Only
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is again cautioning consumers that chicken jerky treats for dogs (also sold as chicken tenders, strips or treats) may be associated with illness in dogs. In the last 12 months, FDA has seen an increase in the number of complaints from dog owners and veterinarians. However, at the same time, they say that, after extensive testing of these products at several veterinary laboratories, there has been no conclusive determination that these treats have caused the illnesses and/or deaths. Pet Sitting is a specialty career that is great for anyone who loves animals in animal related careers. It is also great for a person who maybe doesn’t have his or her own pet because of a specific situation.

With this career you will spend your time moving from house to house as a caretaker for families who are on vacation or out of town. You may also just do home visits, where you would go to the home each day, or a few times a week, to take care of the pets left there while the family is out of town. This animal related career does not require any special education studies, however the more experience you have with animals will benefit you.

It does require maturity, good transportation, an insurance policy to protect you should anything happen to an animal in your care, your strong sense of responsibility as an animal related career.

Take him there at the same times daily (e.g. when you first get up in the morning, when you get home from work, and just before bed). To be successful at dog training, your body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice need to be consistent with the commands you are giving your dog. When you are rewarding your dog with praise, use a higher pitched, cheerful voice. When you need to correct your dog, use a deeper tone and a firm voice. Always stand up straight when you give a command. With consistency your dog will learn to understand and obey you.

Training a dog is a great experience. Seeing how your pet develops good behavior and respect for your command you is a rewarding experience and well worth your time. Training a dog should be treated as an opportunity to have fun instead of a chore, so have fun trying out the suggestions in this article!

Give your German Shepherd a job

You may add a food treat during potty training – however, it’s a good idea to offer different reinforcements for specific activities. Doggy cookies are great, but your affection and approval is by far the reward that your dog wants the most.

Unless you have a fenced yard, you can also use these frequent potty breaks to reinforce walking on the leash. Don’t roam aimlessly during potty breaks. Give the German Shepherd puppy five minutes to do the job, and then go back inside.

That will teach the dog that casual walks are just for fun, but potty walks are short and purposeful. You’ll be glad you taught that lesson when the dog wakes you up at 3 o’clock in the morning in a desperate need to potty when the outside temperature is freezing.

To help you monitor the crate training, keep a log of times your dog spends in the crate and how often you take the dog out. In the beginning, you may need to take the dog out every 45 minutes to an hour for short breaks.

When you find that this is working, extend the time by 15-20 minutes each period. In a few weeks, you’ll learn the times of day the dog most commonly needs to potty and how long he can wait between breaks.

Don’t punish him for having accidents. Simply revise the training schedule to shorten the time between potty breaks. If your German Shepherd fails to potty after several breaks, be smart and restrict his access to a kitchen or bathroom.

You don’t want a dog with a full bladder to start active play or get excited. Those distractions often result in accidents. After a successful potty break, you can give full run of the house as an additional reward. This will train the dog to see that after potty, he gets to have fun with the family, which is another reward.

When I was a kid, we had a pet Alsatian dog – some people call them German Shepherds. I was absolutely in love with him. His name was Hans, and he was probably the best Alsatian dog I’ve ever seen. He was loyal, smart, and also quite playful.

Most German shepherds , aka: Alsatian dogs, are little bit serious in nature because they come from herding dogs. They like to be given a task, and when they aren’t they get unhappy. Hans was no different.

Although he loved to play fetch or show off his ability to do different tricks, he had a lot of fun no matter what we were doing. We could be wrestling, playing tag, or whatever. It didn’t matter. My German Shepherd Dog always seemed to be enjoying himself and he loved to work!

I hadn’t thought about my pet dog for years when one day, I walked into my daughter’s room. When asked her why, she told me that she had always wanted to have a GSD puppy of her own.
