John Wayne’s real name is Marion Mitchell Morrison born in Winterset, Iowa. His family moved to Palmdale, California and in 1911 they moved to Glendale, California where his dad worked as a pharmacist.

John had a pet Airedale Terrier to keep him company named Duke, a local fireman from Glendale nicknamed him “Little Duke” and from then on he preferred being called Duke instead of his real name Marion.

Growing up as a teenager John Wayne worked at a local ice cream shop for a man who worked for Hollywood Studios.

John Wayne has won many awards he won the Best Actor Oscar in 1969 for True Grit and was nominated for Best Picture for The Alamo in 1960. Appearing in nearly 250 movies, he holds the record for being the lead character in 142 of his film appearances.

Entertainment Weekly voted him the 5th Greatest Movie Star of all time.

On September 9, 2004 John Wayne was honored in the Legends Of Hollywood USA commemorative stamp series, when stamps were 37cents. Additionally, John Wayne checkbook covers have been issued in his honor.

The memory of John Wayne is honored in public locations all across the United States. John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California erected a 9 foot bronze statue at the entrance of the in his honor.

He donated land near Sequim, Washington for the John Wayne Marina.

In Brooklyn, New York a public school was dedicated in his honor on October 28, 1982, named John Wayne Elementary School. A 38 foot mosaic mural entitled “John Wayne and the American Frontier” created by a famous N.Y. artist Knox Martin.

Iron Horse State Park located in Washington named the 100 mile trail “John Wayne Pioneer Trail” in his honor.

While listening to a few of the many celebrity ghost stories that are rumored to be true, I came across a handful that I’m listing for you here, as they may be of interest to those who enjoy hearing about celebrity ghosts:

Jim Morrison – Jim supposedly haunts a bathroom located in a Mexican eatery named “Mexico” in Los Angeles. The restaurant was at one time used as a workshop for the Doors, as well as a recording studio, with the vocal booth having been in an area where the restroom is now located. The manager is completely convinced that Jim haunts the place, with lights going on and off of their own accord at strange times, plus the bathroom handle on the door jiggles by itself sometimes. The chef says that they tried to have a “cleansing” spiritually of the restaurant, but were told by the people who were called in to cleanse the place that whatever was there wasn’t planning to leave.

Farrah Fawcett – Surprisingly Tori Spelling’s house is reported to be haunted by the ghost of Farrah who wanted to pass on messages to her own family through a psychic.
